New editions of Arablit Quarterly, Nenta Journal, Ipikai Journal, and Ubwali are now available for your reading pleasure.

ArabLit Quarterly

ArabLit Quarterly is a literary magazine that brings together Arabic literature, essays, wordplay, art, music, and food in translation, founded in 2018.

The latest edition, which has the theme “Grief” in the background of the horrors being meted out to Gaza. The contributors include Alaa Abdulwahab, Fadi Azzam, Ali Al-Jamri, Zahra Marwan, James E. Ipikai

Ipikai, founded by Batsirai Chigama and Fungai Tichawangana, is an initiative of the new Zimbabwe Poets Society.

The newest edition, the seventh, is edited by Batsirai Chigama and features the theme, “Shades of Grief.” It has contributions from Samantha Rumbidzai Vazhure, Obey Victor Chiyangwa, Elton Ndudzo, Andy Kahari, Gabriel Gidi, Batsirai Chigama, Albright Nombekezeli Sade Mabuza, Oscar Gwiriri, Tinashe Madamombe, Buhlebenkosi Tshabangu-Moyo, Theresa Chadenga, Gertrude Mutsamwira, Ruvimbo Martha Jeche, Iz Mazano, Julia Kudakwashe Nyamadzawo, Pauline Chirata Mukondiwa, Beverley Ann Abrahams, Emelda Gwitima, David Chasumba, Chiedza Mufunde, Moreblessing Size Tafireyi, and Courage Elisha Karuma Karuma.

Nenta

Nenta Literary Journal is a publication dedicated to Ghanaian writers everywhere. Their name comes from two ADINKRA symbols— Nkonsonkonson and Ese Ne Tekrema (NENT), which speaks to the idea of community and interdependence. The A represents “Aba,” which is the Akan word for seed.

The May edition features works from Alhassan Mohammed, Richeal Barnes, and K. Asare-Bediako.

Ubwali

Ubwali is a literary magazine that features prose, poetry, and nonfiction, founded by Mubanga Kalimamukwento, Mbozi Haimbe, and Fiske Nyirongo in 2024.

Their latest edition features short stories by Perpetual Murray, Mutale Chisulo, Rigwell Asiedu, Ally Baharoon, and Rafeeat Aliyu; essays by Winifred Òdúnóku, Suwilanji Namusamba, Birungi Gillian, and Chisom Nsiegbunam; poetry by Dacious Kasoka, Adesiyan Oluwapelumi, Rachel Chitofu, John Ebute, MK Kuol, Prosper Iféányi, Margaret Mkandawire, Kaluwe Haangala, Joemario Umana, Shitta Faruq Adémóla, Salama Wainaina, and Nkateko Masinga; a novel excerpt by Mamdouh Hebeshy interview with Iris Mwanza; photography by Sana Ginwalla, Habibat Sani Muhammad and Alex Finn Museke, and cover art by Habibat Sani Muhammad.
