New editions of literary magazines Weganda Review, Efiko, New Contrast, and The Shallow Tales Review are now available.
Weganda Review

The Weganda Review is a literary journal produced in Uganda as a project of the cultural nonprofit Weganda Foundation. The platform founded by Rodney Muhumuza in 2023 features writers, researchers, academics, artists, and others publishing short fiction, poetry, art portfolios, photography, diaries, reviews, and essays.
The magazine’s latest edition which is the seventh issue (January – March 2025) has prose, poetry, nonfiction, and art by among others Gloria Mwaniga, Junior Mudahunga, Wambui wa Mwangi, Ismael Kateregga, Arao Ameny, Wisdom Adediji, Sarah Adeyemo, C. I. Atumah, and Nduta Waweru.

Efiko

Efiko, founded by Ladi Opaluwa and Oris Aigbokhaevbolo, is an online literary magazine with a focus on Africa as both a place and perspective. It is the definitive publication for bookish folks interested in Africa.
The most recent edition which is the fifth has contributions from Catherine McNamara, Haruna Solomon Binkam, Ernest Ogunyemi, Demilade Oladapo, Ridwan Badamasi, Theresa Sylvester, Prosper Ifeanyi, Dami Ajayi, Azubuike Obi, I Echo, and Adeniyi Odukoya.

New Contrast

New Contrast is devoted to publishing the best of poetry and prose, art, reviews, and interviews from both local and international authors.
Issue 207 features poetry by Thandokazi Mayo, Athambile Masola, P.R Anderson, Francesco Nassimbeni, Hleze Kunju, and many others. Prose from Karen Jennings, Wanelisa Xaba, Molly Anderson, Lethokuhle Msimang and Sven Axelrad. The cover art is by Nolan Chichi Kalwandu.

The Shallow Tales Review

The Shallow Tales Review is a Nigerian-based electronic literary magazine dedicated to curating new and established voices from Africa.
The latest issue which has Rasaq Malik Gbolahan as guest editor has fiction, poetry, and essays from contributors from from Nigeria, Egypt, Tanzania, Ghana, Kenya, and Zambia. They included Blessing Omeiza Ojo, Ezeokafor Paschal, Nnamdi Ndiolo, Jumoke Verissimo, Rasheed Ayinla Shehu, Wash-Anigbore Harry, Michael Oladele, Olobo Ejile, Marvellous Mmesomachi Igwe, Star Zahra, Dacious Kasoka, Salama Wainaina, Ber Anena, Ndakotsu Abubakar, Immaculate Halla, Salma Ahmed, Damilola Oyedeji, and Anthony Chibueze Ukwuona. There is an interview with the South African author Niq Mhlongo.
