Morland Writing Scholarships 2025 shortlist announced.

The Morland Writing Scholarships 2025 shortlists were announced in London, UK, today, Friday, October 17, 2025.

The Morland Writing Scholarships for African Writers, popularly referred to as the Morland Writing Scholarship, is an opportunity to allow writers to finish a manuscript. In the past, the scholarship has been accorded to writers from across the continent, like Yewande Omotoso, Noo Saro-Wiwa, Ayesha Harruna Attah, Gloria Mwaniga Odari, Hawa Jande Golakai, Nnamdi Oguike, Parsalelo ole Kantai, Muhammad L. Kejera, Neema Komba, Chido Muchemwa, Rafeeat Aliyu, Mubanga Kalimamukwento, Kiprop Kimutai, and Remy Ngamije. Carey Baraka, Fayssal Bensalah, Yvette Ndlovu, and Frances Ogamba were the 2024 recipients.

From the over 800 entries, the jury selected a shortlist of twenty comprising entries from nine African countries. There are seven writers from South Africa and six from Nigeria, and single entries from Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and the DRC. The shortlisted writers are;

  • Mphuthumi Ntabeni, South Africa
  • Mvemba Dizolele, DRC
  • Nzube Nlebedim, Nigeria
  • Pulane Mpondo, South Africa
  • Rigwell Addison Asiedu, Ghana
  • Sa’idu Sulaiman, Nigeria
  • Shubnum Khan, South Africa
  • Sven Axelrad, South Africa
  • Timothy Ogene, Nigeria
  • Togara Muzanenhamo, Zimbabwe
  • Wesley Macheso, Malawi
  • Yvonne Zabu, Uganda

The winners will be announced on November 22, 2025.
