Mubanga Kalimamukwento, Foday Mannah on UK’s Bristol Short Story Prize 2019 shortlist.

Mubanga Kalimamukwento and Foday Mannah. are the two Africans on the Bristol Short Story Prize 2019 shortlist announced on July 24, 2019.

The Bristol Short Story Prize is an international writing competition founded in 2007 by the editors of the quarterly cultural magazine Bristol Review of Books. The prize publishes a short story anthology full of fresh and original stories annually and distributes it to bookshops high street chains, independent shops, and online booksellers in Bristol and further afield.

The 2019 award is being judged by Kate Johnson (Chair), Lucy Cowie, Polly Ho-Yen, and Billy Kahora. This team selected a longlist of forty writers in the running for the award on July 17 with two African names, Mubanga Kalimamukwento (The Devil’s Ivy) and Foday Mannah (Amie Samba) making the cut for the shortlist announced on July 24.

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Bristol, UK on October 12.

It’s been a great few months for Mubanga who won the Dinaane Debut Fiction Award in 2018 and the Kalemba Short Story Prize this year.

Update: An earlier version of this blog failed to mention Foday Manneh who also got shortlisted. Thank you for pointing this out Sikkaaka.  We have since added the  Sierra Leonian’s name to this list.
