Raising A Sun, the debut poetry collection of Nairobi-based poet Mufasa, launched at the Goethe-Institut in Nairobi on June 29, 2019.
The Kenyan poetry scene has been growing progressively with events regularly happening in many of the cities. One of the most recognisable names in the fast-growing spoken word community today is Eldoret born, Nairobi-based Mufasa who shared his poetry on stages locally and out of the country.
The spoken word poet launched his full-length poetry collection Raising A Sun, a 111-page publication about parts of a life constantly looking for light. Organised in four chapters, the collection is a potage of stories drawn from the author’s own life experiences, observations from life and current and past events that shape the continuum of human experience: love, loss, spirituality, family.
The event was a mini-concert fusing poetry & music and joined by guest acts like Labdi who gave an impressive orutu performance. There were many who came to support the artist including his family and retired Chief Justice of Kenya, Dr Willy Mutunga who took the role of the chief guest.
The show just started and the band is killing it 🙌👌🤗. Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.#RaisingASun #Poetry #BahatiReality @mufasapoet @ChrisMukasa pic.twitter.com/7mGj89xhMj

“One day Kenyans will wake up and they will be told to vacate from #Kenya. We don’t know who the government borrowed from, what was given as a surety, and what we owe. When l see young people here, they give me hope that Kenya can be reclaimed”-@WMutunga @mufasapoet‘s book launch pic.twitter.com/jvF9s34MrW

“When l joined the judiciary, their was this culture of lawyers calling themselves learned friends, l started inviting artists, activists to speak to them. Lawyers are ignorant of many areas apart from law and it’s important they listen to other people.” – @WMutunga @mufasapoet pic.twitter.com/roxnCEik2b
