Najila Woodroffe won the inaugural Grenada Writers’ Prize in St. George’s, Grenada, on Monday, December 8, 2025.
The Grenada Writers’ Prize is a new national short story competition open to residents of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. This initiative, supported by the Grenada Office of Creative Affairs and other sponsors, will award winners with cash prizes, mentoring, and professional exposure. The longlist was made public on Monday, November 10, before the shortlist was revealed on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Najila Woodroofe’s short story, The Lake That Told A Lie, captivated the judges to win the inaugural Grenada Office of Creative Affairs Grenada Writers’ Prize. Woodroffe is a Grenadian writer and communications professional who is committed to preserving Grenadian culture and the richness of its Patois/Creole storytelling traditions. An executive member of Caribbean Women in Leadership, she brings a passion for communication and creative expression to both her writing and professional work. With a background in marketing and graphic design, she excels at crafting meaningful narratives and managing multifaceted projects. Her writing explores themes of identity, resilience, and memory, reflecting her dedication to elevating Caribbean stories and voices.
