Hawa Jande Golakai and Nana Ekua Brew-Hammond are two West African writers whose books are available in Nairobi’s Bookstop Bookshop.
Golakai is a Liberian writer whose debut novel The Lazarus Effect has been doing very well in the African literary scene. The novel follows the exploits of investigative reporter Voinjama “Vee” Johnson in Cape Town, South Africa and her assistant Chloe. You can read my review of that book here. The writer was also one of the Africa39 writers.
Ghanaian Brew-Hammond’s contribution to the African literature world is her debut novel Powder Necklace which has been received well by commentators. The book is about a young woman who is sent by her mother to school in rural Ghana to protect her from the fast life and bad influences of London. She was also one of the Africa39 writers.
