Nana Ekua Brew Hammond features at Labone Dialogues

Nana Ekua Brew Hammond was a guest of “Labone Dialogues,” the series hosted by NYU Accra in Ghana on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

‘Labone Dialogues by NYU Accra’ was conceived and curated by New York University Accra Director Prof Chiké Frankie Edozien in Accra, Ghana in 2020. The series hosts events celebrating writers and other artists like Kofi Ghanaba, Ama Ata Aidoo, Ayesha Haruna Attah, Wanlov The Kubolor, Latif Abubakar, Maaza Mengiste, Abubakar Adam Ibrahim, Zukiswa Wanner, and Leye Adenle. In 2023, the dialogues went big as they hosted many leading writers in one event.

Nana Ekua Brew Hammond, a writer of novels, and short stories and a poet, was a guest of the Labone Dialogues last Thursday. The Africa39 project listee has contributed to the Ellah Wakatama Allfrey-edited Africa 39: New Writing from Africa South of the Sahara (2014) and the Margaret Busby-edited New Daughters of Africa (2019). Her solo writing includes the novel Powder Necklace (2010), the children’s book Blue: A History of the Color As Deep As the Sea and as Wide as the Sky (illustrated by Daniel Minter), and this year’s new novel My Parents’ Marriage (2024). She is also the editor of Relations: An Anthology of African and Diaspora Voices (2023).
