Natasha Brown and Damon Galgut are on the shortlist for the Rathbones Folio Prize 2022 announced on February 9, 2022.
The Rathbones Folio Prize, worth £30,000, is a literary award currently sponsored by Rathbones Investment Management that first ran in 2014–2015. Previous winners have been George Saunders, Akhil Sharma, Hisham Matar, Richard Lloyd Parry, Raymond Antrobus, and Valeria Luiselli.
The judging panel for this year’s award comprises award-winning author of novels, short stories and non-fiction Tessa Hadley (Chair); the Costa Prize and Rathbones Folio Prize-shortlisted poet Rachel Long; and prize-winning non-fiction writer William Atkins. They announced both the longlist and shortlist for 2022 on the same day. On the longlist the following writers of African descent made the cut;
- A Little Devil in America, Hanif Abdurraqib
- Palmares, Gayl Jones
- The Promise, Damon Galgut
- Assembly, Natasha Brown
From these, the shortlist were;

The winner will be revealed at a ceremony on March 23, 2022.
