Nii Ayikwei Parkes is on the judging panel of the Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize 2020 announced on July 25, 2020.
The Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize is an annual award for published translations from Arabic of full-length works of imaginative and creative writing of literary merit and general interest worth £3,000. Established in 2006 by Banipal Magazine and the Banipal Trust for Arab Literature, the prize is sponsored by Omar Saif Ghobash and his family in memory of his father, a passionate bibliophile.
The judging panel for the 2020 edition of the prize was announced with Paul Starkey taking the chair role. On his panel will be The Guardian columnist Justine Jordan, writer and activist Nii Ayikwei Parkes, and film director and philanthropist Omar Al-Qattan.
Nii Ayikwei Parkes is no new name to those who follow the African literary scene with his work as novelist, poet, editor, and publisher. The Ghanaian will be taking this role up on the back of his work as judge of the Commonwealth Short Story Prize.
