Okey Ndibe brings you the “New African Commentary” journal.

The New African Commentary journal is set to make its debut under Nigerian author Okey Ndibe. The publication will be available on November 16, 2018.

In 1989, Chinua Achebe teamed up with a number of Africana writers, intellectuals, and political leaders to found an international magazine, African Commentary. Invoking the lyrics of the great Jamaican reggae star, Peter Tosh—“Wherever you come from, once you’re a Black man, you’re an African”— Achebe described the bi-monthly publication as “a journal for people of African descent — whether they are African Americans, Africans in Europe, Africans in the Caribbean, or Africans in the homeland.” The magazine’s mission, according to the novelist, was “to ensure that Africa and the rest of the Black world step into the next century with dignity and a rekindled optimism.”

The magazine edited by Okey Ndibe would have a brave run before folding several issues later. Ndibe would go on to have his own stellar literary career with novels like Foreign Gods, Inc (2014), Arrows of rain (2000), and the memoir Never Look an American in the Eye (2016).

While African Commentary may have gone, a new publication led by then editor Okey Ndibe is in the offing. The new publication called the New African Commentary is set to be an online publication providing reliable news, insightful analysis, learned commentary, and entertaining features on everything Africana: politics, science and technology, finance and economy, arts and culture.
