The Pa Gya! A Literary Festival 2025 with the theme “Connection” will be hosted in Accra, Ghana, from October 17 – 19, 2025.
Pa Gya! A Literary Festival is a literary arts festival whose name, “Pa Gya!” comes from the Twi word meaning “to lift” or “to strike flame”, is aimed at igniting passion for the literary arts. It was first hosted by the Writers Project of Ghana and the Goethe-Institut in 2017, followed by other successful editions in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
For 2025, Pa Gya! A Literary Festival will feature activities such as readings, panel discussions, performances, book launches, literary prize awards, art talks, art and literary exhibitions, film screenings, and many more. The festival engages all literary forms – fiction, poetry, spoken word, comic and graphic novels, creative non-fiction, and literary blogging.
There will be writers, poets, performers, academics, editors, illustrators, librarians, literary agents, bloggers, and many other literary practitioners from several countries. They include Aduke Gomez, Akorfa Dawson, Alice Johnson, Ama Asantewa Diaka, Angelina Boakye, Audrey-Bertha Nartey, Aziza Atta, Babs Gons, Boakye D. Alpha, Cheryl S. Ntumy, Chiké Frankie Edozien, Claire Govender, Crystal Tettey, Demi Priscilla Letsa, Dr., Denoo Edinam Yawo, Dora Abra Egblewogbe, Edwige Dro, Eloghosa Osunde, Empi Baryeh, Esi Sutherland-Addy, Nana Ekua Brew-Hammond, Fui Can-Tamakloem, Henneh Kyereh Kwaku, Ivana Akotowaa Ofori, Jedidiah Henaku-Budu, Jeffery Renard Allen, Kristina Diprose, Kwabena Okyere, Kwesi Amoak, Larada Lee-Wallace, Mamle Kabu, Michael Donkor, Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah, Nana S. Achampong, Noble Kofi Nazzah, Phillippa Yaa de Villiers, SaCut Akaabitono Amenga-Etego, Tanya Zack, Temi Oh, Tracy Arthur, Yejide Kilanko, and Wale Okediran.
The festival is organised by the Writers Project of Ghana, Goethe-Institut Ghana, and the Foundation for Contemporary Art-Ghana. Major sponsors are the EU Delegation to Ghana, Goethe-Institut Ghana, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ghana, the Embassy of Ireland in Nigeria and Ghana, and Culture Ireland. It also received support from Bravehearts Expeditions and C.Woermann Ghana Ltd, with extra location space provided by dot.ateliers and the Bulgarian Cultural Centre.
