Participants of Berlin’s African Book Festival 2022 revealed.

The artists taking part in the African Book Festival 2022 at the Nåpoleon Komplex, Berlin, Germany from August 26-28 were revealed on June 5, 2022.

The African Book Festival featuring some of the leading writers in Africa and its diaspora has been hosted in Berlin since 2018. It has established itself as a leading meeting place for writers and poets with headliners like José Eduardo Agualusa, Ben Okri, and Chris Abani.

The African Book Festival is set to bring together the stars of contemporary African literature in the German capital for another run in August. The programme will include readings, concerts, panel discussions, poetry, and comedy. In December, the festival organisers announced the curator for 2022 to be Johannesburg-based writer, filmmaker, and photographer Lidudumalingani.  They later revealed that the festival headliner would be legendary publisher Margaret Busby while Alexandra Antwi-Boasiako takes the role of InterKontinental Literature Ambassador.

The festival artists come from nations like South Africa, which is this year’s country focus, as well as Nigeria, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania, Germany, Cuba, Portugal, the USA, the United Kingdom, and DR Congo. Writers and poets, many of them award-winning, make up the bulk of the profiles, while others are musicians, dancers, academia, researchers, actors, visual artists, and filmmakers.

Igoni Barrett, Max Lobe, Mphuthumi Ntabeni, Cupido, Alain Missala, Anna Samwel Manyanza, Bongani Kona, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Buhle Ngaba, Celina Bostic, Daniel Okine, Disnay López, Ainehi Edoro-Glines, Dudu Busani-Dube, Dzekashu MacViban, Dr Athambile Masola, Emeka Okereke, Emmanuel Iduma, Ijoma Mangold, Ifeatu Nnaobi, Goitseone Montsho, Jennifer Neal, JJ Bola, Josephine Apraku, Keith Black, Lerato Mogoatlhe, Lauri Kubuitsile, Maneo Mohale, Musa Okwonga, Nomonde Buthelezi, Olivia Wenzel, Outlwile Tsipane, Paula Laurel Jackson, Rešoketšwe Manenzhe, Sanelisiwe Nyaba, Tammi L.
