The Prémio Literário Mia Couto 2025 finalists were announced in Beira, Mozambique on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
Prémio Literário Mia Couto (English: Mia Couto Literary Prize) was set up in honour of Beira’s foremost literary export, Mozambique author Mia Couto. Couto has written numerous books which gave him awards like the Camões Prize in 2013, the most important literary award in the Portuguese language, and the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 2014. The prize was aimed at stimulating quality literary production in the country and annually distinguishing the best works of poetry and prose. The most recent winner was Adelino Albano Luís.
The Prémio Literário Mia Couto 2025 jury is made up of Nataniel Ngomane (president), Teresa Noronha, Vanessa Riambau Pinheiro, Joaquim Arena, and Marcelo Panguana. They revealed the 10 finalists, five in the Prose (Novel) category and another five in the Poetry category, on Saturday that feature;
Prose

The winners will be announced in August before the award ceremony in the city of Beira on September 5th. Each winner of the Mia Couto Literary Prize will receive a cash prize of 400,000 MZN (four hundred thousand meticais), financed by the company Cornelder de Moçambique.
