Prix National Cénacle du Livre Senegal 2023 winners announced.

Fatimata Diallo Ba and Papa Samba Kane won at the Prix National Cénacle du Livre Senegal 2023 in Dakar, Senegal on Saturday, October 28, 2023.

Prix National Cénacle du Livre Senegal is an initiative from Cénacle des Jeunes Écrivains du Sénégal to promote books and writers, intends to reward the best works published in Senegal, written by Senegalese or foreigners, without distinction of age. The first winners, Tabara Niang, Maguèye Toure, and Elaz Ndongo Thioye, received the 1,000,000 FCFA cash prize and a reissue of 100 copies of their prize-winning books.  

The jury for 2023, chaired by literary critic Abdoulaye Racine Senghor, president of the board of directors of the Museum of Black Civilizations included journalists Papa Alioune Sarr (E-Media Invest) and Astou Mbène Thioub (TFM), writer Djibril Diallo ”Falémé,” and French teacher Harouna Dior Fanaye. The finalists they announced in September were;

  • Rouges silences, Fatimata Diallo Ba (L’Harmattan Sénégal, 2022), , and “
  • Solitudes, Aminata Ly Ndiaye (L’Harmattan Senegal, 2022)

Poetry

  • D’ombres et d’échos, Papa Moussa Sy (Al Fàruq Editions, 2022)
  • Je suis un ange, Papa Samba Kane (New African Editions of Senegal)

The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Museum of Black Civilizations, in Dakar in the presence of several guests, including the Minister of Culture and Historical Heritage, Aliou Sow. The winners on the day were revealed to be;
