Meryem Alaoui, Diaty Diallo, Khalil Diallo, and Mohamed Mbougar Sarr are on the longlist for the Prix Premiere 2023 announced on July 7, 2023.
Prix Premiere (English: First Prize) is an award organized by the Franco-German Cultural Institute of Tübingen and the Book Office of the French Institute in Germany. The award celebrates books translated from French into German and has been running since the 2020 – 2021 year. Previous winners have been Ryoko Sekiguchi & Karin Uttendörfer, Antoine Wauters & Paul Sourzac, and Pierric Bailly & Paul Sourzac.
The longlist for 2022 – 2023 for books published between September 2022 and September 2023 was recently announced by organisers. From the sixteen on the longlist, here are the writers of African descent in the running;

- Zwei Sekunden brennende Luft, Assoziation A (Deux secondes d’air qui brûle, Seuil) Author: Diaty Diallo Translator: Lena Müller und Nouria Behloul
- Die Odyssee der Vergessenen, Orlanda (L’Odyssée des oubliés, Emmanuelle Collas) Author: Khalil Diallo Translator: Astrid Bührle-Gallet
- Die geheimste Erinnerung der Menschen, Hanser Verlag (La plus secrète mémoire des hommes, Philippe Rey) Author: Mohamed Mbougar Sarr Translator: Holger Fock & Sabine Müller
In September 2023, a jury comprising the Franco-German Cultural Institute in Tübingen, the Association of Friends of the Institute, the Book and Publishing Office of the Institut français Germany, the TOLEDO program, the Frankfurt Book Fair, and the culture journalist Sigrid Brinkmann will nominate three novels for the shortlist. This shortlist will then be presented to the public for voting.
