Rentrée Littéraire du Mali awards 2021 winners announced.

Khalil Diallo, Ibrahim Lanséni Coulibaly, and Amadou Chab Touré were announced the winners of La Rentrée Littéraire du Mali 2021 awards in Bamako, Mali on March 20, 2021.

La Rentrée Littéraire du Mali (Literary Return of Mali) is a feast of books, words, and ideas for four days in Bamako, Mali since 2008. It offers a platform for meetings and debates between writers from Africa and the rest of the world, students and high school students, publishers, booksellers, librarians, readers, and all those who see the book as an essential tool for progress and development.

One of the highlights of this Malian extravaganza are the literary awards Prix Massan Makan Diabaté, Prix Ahmed Baba, and Prix European Union which were first handed out in 2014. The winners of the 2021 edition of the awards were announced this past Saturday evening in Bamako.

Jury member Gaoussou Drabo was satisfied with the literary quality but recognizes that there is still a long way to go for the public to immerse themselves in these works. “The glass is three quarters empty but there is a quarter of hope in it,” says Gaoussou Drabo. There are a lot of young writers, so I hope that this is a critical core that will remain and that one fine day will perhaps help a more extensive practice of reading flourish. ”
