Rutanang Book Fair 2017

Rutanang Book Fair 2017 goes online

The second edition of the Rutanang Book Fair 2017 hosted on May 2-4 will be an exclusively online affair.

The Rutanang Book Fair 2016 opened with a blast in the South African town of Tlokwe from April 25-27. It was amazing display of the written word with some of the more well-known names in the Southern African literary scene featuring. They included Sabata-Mpho Mokae, Pinky Khoabane, Kholofelo Maenetsha, Unathi Magubeni, and many more.

We here at JamesMurua.com were there to cover the events there and gave reports from the Sabata lecture on Sol Plaatje, Sankara Publishers panel featuring Mbe Mbhele and Mpho Matstile. We also furnished our readers with images and videos from the events in Tlokwe. This glorious debut saw the festival dubbed the best new literary festival of 2016 by our unbiased panel of one.

The team at the Rutanang Book Fair this year have opted to go in a very different direction this year with plan being have the whole events happening online as opposed to at a physical location. The plan is for the festival delegates to not leave the comfort of their homes or offices but do their thing from wherever they are.

Sabata-mpho Mokae

So how will it work you ask? Festival guests would will be chats on Facebook and Twitter, the biggest ones in the social media business. You the lover of the literary wherever you might be would then log on and enjoy as they make presentations of poet, prose and everything literary. The artists in question happen to be Sabata-Mpho Mokae, Futhi Ntshingila, Babongile Zulu, Kholofelo Maenetsha, Chairman Mwebi, and more so you really want to take part.

You won’t hear me complaining. As much as I love spending time in South Africa, the visa process to get to our southernmost country can break a man so I get to avoid that.

See you online from May 2-4 lads and lasses. You can follow the events from the following from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
