SA Cosby, Femi Kayode on UK Crime Writers’ Association Awards 2022 longlist.

Femi Kayode and SA Cosby are on the longlist for the Crime Writers’ Association Gold Dagger Award 2022 announced on April 23, 2022.

The Crime Writers’ Association is a specialist authors’ organisation in the United Kingdom. Its most famous initiatives are the dagger awards for the best crime writing of the year, and the Diamond Dagger awarded to an author for lifetime achievement. Some of its previous winners have been Chris Whitaker, Michael Robotham, John le Carré, Ruth Rendell, and Patricia Cornwell.

The longlists for this year’s awards were announced at the annual Crime Writers’ Association dinner on Saturday. The fourteen listed winners feature the following writers of African descent;

  • Razorblade Tears, SA Cosby (Headline Publishing Group)
  • Lightseekers, Femi Kayode (Bloomsbury Publishing, Raven)

Lightseekers, which won the 2019 UEA Crime Writing Prize, is a new crime series introducing investigative psychologist Dr Philip Taiwo. Femi Kayode responded to the longlist by saying, “So I woke up to this. Humbled. Chuffed. Overwhelmed. What company to be listed with! Someone pinch me.”

Razorblade Tears which follows a black father, a white father, and their murdered sons has been The Sunday Times Thriller of the Months and Financial Times Crime Book of the Year.

The shortlist for the CWA Gold Dagger Award will be announced on May 13 and the winner on June 29.
