The seventh edition of Salon du livre Afro Canadien 2024 will be held in Ottawa, Canada from October 24 to 27, 2024. The theme is “Voyage en Francophonie.”
Salon du livre Afro-Canadien was founded by Mosaïque Interculturelle to promote and shine the spotlight on Francophone Afro-descendant culture in 2018. The Ottawa-based literary extravaganza was a unique platform to discover the diversity and richness of Afro-Canadian literature while creating a space for exchange around Francophone literature. Since that first edition, it has gone on to become arguably the largest annual gathering celebrating Francophone literary diversity in Canada.

The 2024 edition is set to return to Ottawa with the theme “Voyage en Francophonie” (English: Travel in French-speaking countries) starting on Thursday, October 24. The headliner is Edem Awumey, recipient of several literary prizes, notably the UNESCO-Aschberg Prize (2000), the Grand Prix littéraire de l’Afrique noire for his novel Port-Mélo (2006), the Prix Jacques-Poirier Outaouais for his novel Noces de coton and finalist of the first selection for the Prix Goncourt for his novel Les Pieds Sales (2009).

Apart from the headliner, there will be participation of 80 African-Canadian authors as well as voices of Francophone diversity from several provinces and further afield. They include Nouemsi Njiké (Quebec), Samar Samir Mezghanni (New Brunswick, Saskatchewan), Margaret Michèle Cook (Ontario), Blaise Ndala (Canada, DR Congo), as well as prominent writers from the international Francophonie, Alain Mabanckou (France, Congo), and Pierre Buteau (Haiti).
