Salon du livre Athéna 2023 for Reunion in October

The fifth edition of Salon du livre Athéna 2023 is set to run in the city of Saint-Pierre, Reunion from October 5 – 8, 2023. Its theme is “Commitment, freedom, and truth.”

Salon du livre Athéna was first organised and hosted by director Linda Koo Seen Lin in Saint-Pierre, Réunion in 2013. The name Athena came from the Greek goddess of wisdom, arts, and science. The ambition was to “gather all the public around the book” over three days, by offering free conferences, round tables, dedications, shows, readings, meetings with professionals, meetings with schoolchildren, a book flea market; booksellers, publishers, exhibitors, and associations.

Since then, the festival has hosted some of the leading names in Reunion and the general Indian Ocean area such as Johari Ravaloson, Ananda Devi, Nathacha Appanah, Carl de Souza, Michèle Rakotoson, Yasmina Khadra, Nadjim Mchangama, Djaïli Amadou Amal, Nassuf Djailani, Jean-Luc Raharimanana, Adjmaël Halidi, among others.

In 2027, the festival inaugural the Prix littéraire Athéna–Ville de Saint-Pierre (English: Athéna–Ville de Saint-Pierre Literary Prize) to celebrate a French-language adult novel published on the festival period with a focus on the festival theme. It has been won by Michaël Ferrier (2017), Carl de Souza (2019), and Jean-François Samlong (2021).
