Salon Du Livre de Mayotte 2023 starts December 1

The third edition of Salon Du Livre de Mayotte 2023 is set to run in Mamoudzou, Mayotte from December 1 – 2, 2023.

Salon Du Livre De Mayotte (Mayotte Book Fair) was first hosted in Mayotte in the northern Mozambique Channel in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Southeast Africa in 2017. They hosted authors, printers, publishers, booksellers, librarians, and associations working in the book field from Mozambique, Maurice, Tanzania, Reunion, Madagascar, Comoros, Cameroon, and Kenya. There was another edition in 2019, read our reporting of the event here, before they took a Covid break in 2020.

The organisers of the fair have announced that there will be another edition this year in Mamoudzou. Here is their official communication;

The Department of Mayotte, through the Directorate of Culture and Public Reading, is very honored to announce the 3rd edition of the Mayotte Book Fair (SALIMA) on December 1st and 2nd, 2023. 📅🗓

It is a moment of exchange and meetings between the public and the actors of the book (writers and professionals of the book).

For this third edition, there are two priorities: Mahora literature, with the desire to value the work of Mayotte writers, and the book economy, with a view to creating a real book industry in Mayotte.

Indeed, the work of the writers of Mayotte would gain visibility by highlighting the Mahoran literature, through a dedicated conference where this young Mahoran literature will be defined and described by the Mayotte writers themselves.

This is a special moment when the writers of Mayotte will share with the public the specifics of their field of activity, but also their individual work.

On the other hand, it has been a matter for a few years already in the Directorate of Culture and Public Reading, to create a book industry in Mayotte, in partnership with the Mozambique Canal region, Reunion, and the Metropolis.

That is why several book professionals from Mayotte and the Mozambique Canal region are invited, not only to come and take part in the event, but also to speak to explain how a true book economy can be developed across the department of Mayotte, and Canal sub region of Mozambique.

Our department has many advantages: its multilingualism, cultural mix, tourist advantages, economic and demographic growth… Through this SALIMA 2023, we wish to add to these already identified assets, the literary time, and the development of the book industry. 🎉🎉

If you are in the general Mozambican channel area, especially Mayotte, we recommend that you check that fair out.
