Scholastique Mukasonga on US National Book Awards 2019 longlist.

Scholastique Mukasonga’s novel The Barefoot Woman is on the longlist for the US National Book Awards 2019 announced on September 17, 2019.

The US National Book Foundation presents the National Book Awards and two-lifetime achievement awards to authors every November. The awards are handed out in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translated literature, and young people’s literature.

The longlist for the young people’s literature category was announced on Monday with Akwaeke Emezi’s Pet making the cut. The translated literature category will be judged by n+1 editor Keith Gessen, translator Elisabeth Jaquette, novelist Katie Kitamura, novelist Idra Novey, and publisher-bookseller Shuchi Saraswat.

The longlist as you can see features Scholastique Mukasonga’s The Barefoot Woman which was translated from French into English by Jordan Stump and Archipelago Books.

The National Book Foundation will announce the shortlist on October 8 then the winners will be revealed at the National Book Awards ceremony and benefit dinner on November 20 in New York City, USA.
