Shani Akilah’s interconnected short story collection For Such a Time As This launched in London, UK on Thursday, June 27, 2024.
Shani Akilah’s short story collection For Such a Time As This follows a group of young, Black British friends navigating the complexities of modern life in London. From the excitement of new relationships to the challenges of online dating and the shadow of workplace racism, these narratives burst with romance, friendship, and resilience. Against the backdrop of contemporary issues, including the isolation of COVID-19, Akilah’s vivid prose captures the essence of human connection, inviting readers to immerse themselves in the vibrant tapestry of relationships that shape the characters’ lives and identities.

The book launched at an event with the author in conversation with Booker Prize winner Bernardine Evaristo at the Africa Centre in London. Including readings by the author, fans got a chance to buy the titles that were signed on-site.
