The Arabic edition of Yaa Gyasi debut novel Homegoing was presented at the Sharjah International Book Fair 2018 on November 4, 2018. The translation of the Ghanaian writer’s debut is the work of Rewayat.
In 2016, Ghanaian writer Yaa Gyasi made history when her debut novel Homegoing got an advance in seven figures. The novel followed the lives of different descendants of an Asante woman named Maame, starting with her two daughters mesmerised all started getting all the plaudits in our business including a Pen USA nomination. The novel is now available to those who read in Arabic due to the work of Rewayat which specialises in publishing Arabic and translated fiction and non-fiction. The book translated by Ahmed Hassan Almoaini was presented to fair goers at the Sharjah International Book Fair earlier today.
Other books translated by the firm and presented at the fair included The Handmaid’s Tale and The Blind Assassin by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. Also translated are Flaubert’s Parrot by Julian Barnes, Ragtime by British writer E.L. Doctrow, The Comfort of Strangers by Ian McEwan, and The Book of Aron by Jim Shepard.
