Short Story Day Africa 2018 shortlist announced.

The shortlist of ten writers in the running for Short Story Day Africa 2018 was announced on July 4, 2019.

South African headquartered Short Story Day Africa recognises short story writers across the continent while also helping to increase their skills sets with workshops. The Short Story Africa Day prize has been won in the past by Tochukwu Emmanuel Okafor (2018), Sibongile Fisher (2016), Cat Hellisen (2015), Diane Awerbuck (2014), and Okwiri Oduor (2013).

The latest edition of the prize followed the general theme of “Hotel Africa” with the longlist being announced on March 4. The shortlist announced on July 4, with the unusually healthy number of ten, has the following stories;

• Mr Thompson by Noel Cheruto (Kenya).
• Of Birds and Bees by Davina Kawuma (Uganda).
• Maintenance Check by Alinafe Malonje (Malawi).
• Why Don’t You Live in the North? by Wamuwi Mbao (South Africa).
• The Snore Monitor by Chido Muchemwa (Zimbabwe).
• Outside Riad Dahab by Chourouq Nasri (Morocco).
• The Match by Troy Onyango (Kenya).
• Happy City Hotel by Adam El Shalakany (Egypt).
• The Space(s) Between Us by Lester Walbrugh (South Africa).
• Shithole by Michael Yee (South Africa).

The winner will be announced in due course.
