Sixteenth edition of Jozi Book Fair 2024 for Johannesburg

The Jozi Book Fair 2024 with the theme “Literature and Solidarity in a Time of Crisis” runs in the South African city from October 18 – 19, 2024.

The Jozi Book Fair was launched by Khanya College and Wits University in Gauteng to create readers and identify writers in 2009. The educational and cultural festival encourages publishers, non-governmental organisations, readers, writers, artists, and the public to take part as exhibitors and hosts. The fair includes activities such as seminars, discussions on research reports, conversations with authors, book launches, workshops on writing and reading skills and the production of comics, film screenings, drama sketches, and art exhibitions. Those featured include the late Lauretta Ngcobo, Zakes Mda, Gcina Mhlophe, Kopano Matlwa, Mohale Mashigo, and Kemang Wa Lehulere. Internationally, they have hosted Ellen Banda-Aaku (Zambia), Helmi Sharawy (Egypt), Walter Bgoya (Tanzania), and Shailja Patel (Kenya).

The 2024 edition with the theme “Literature and Solidarity in a Time of Crisis” will have several activities for the local community. They will include workshops on topics like drama, dance, poetry, chess, photography, journalism by among others Desiree Chinnian, Lawrence Simelane, Noluthando Xaba, Fouad Asfour, Siya Mviko, Viwe Mazwana, and Masai Dabula. Also on offer are panels, readings, and much more. Some of the featured writers will be Thato Seopa Magadlela, Phyllis Mondlane, Keatlegile Mabena, Thabile Mange, Karabo Moshoeshoe, Trueman Seshoka, and Kgomotso Lekalake.
