Ugandan publisher and literary advocacy organisation Sooo Many Stories has opened a children’s library in Bugolobi, Uganda.
Sooo Many Stories was introduced to many followers of the African literary scene us as a blog which unashamedly promoted content from Uganda before converting to a publishing house. Since then the blog turned publishing house has done some very good work publishing Kagayi Peter’s The Headline That Morning and Other Poems and Philippa Namutebi Kabali-Kagwa’s Flame and Song. Apart from publishing books they have been involved in campaigns to help reading grow in Uganda both for children and adults as well as a booktube channel.
The firm in its drive to nurture the next generation of readers started a children’s book club they called The Fireplace: Tot Tales in 2016; they added two more chapters in Muyenga and Bugolobi this year. This expansion highlighted the need for access to a variety of literature but also, the need to focus on creating literature for the Ugandan child.
To push this endeavour, the firm has opened its first children’s library at their office in Bugolobi with over 200 titles for children aged 0-14 years. The books on offer represent a diverse content offering ensuring that the children in many of the titles look like the Ugandan child in all their glory.
