Omenana Magazine, a pioneer magazine publishing speculative fiction, celebrated its tenth anniversary with two magazines in December 2024.
Omenana Magazine is a speculative fiction online magazine that has published stories by writers from Africa and the African diaspora since 2014. They focus on stories, art, and essays that explore the rich cultural heritage of the continent and its people, while also embracing the fantastical and imaginative elements of science fiction, fantasy, and other genres. Founded by Mazi Nwonwu and Chinelo Onwualu, it is one of the earliest publications promoting and celebrating the diversity and richness of African speculative fiction, allowing writers to share their stories and ideas with a global audience.

For the tenth year, the magazine published two editions starting with the tenth edition edition which has contributions from Stephen Embleton, Gabrielle Emem Harry, Tariro Ndoro, Mazi Nwonwu, Chinelo Onwualu, Art Aliyu, Nerine Dorman, and Wole Talabi. You can get that edition here.

Alongside the tenth edition, they also have a special Portuguese edition, which is issue 31, with contributions from Chao C. Shete, Hannu Afere, Mandisi Nkomo, Lauren Beukes, Mwanabibi Sikao, Nana Afadua Ofori-Atta, Ebere Obua, and Gerald Dean Rice. As it is in Portuguese, you need to speak the language to enjoy the stories. You can get that edition here.
We here at Writing Africa congratulate the Omenana team for their consistency over the last decade.
