Story Sosa Storytelling performance dazzles Nairobi.

The Nairobi National Museum hosted Story Sosa, a new storytelling initiative directed by Mugambi Nthiga on July 22 – 23, 2023.

Story Sosa aimed to deliver live, multimedia storytelling in front of a live audience. The featured stories researched and written just like a traditional magazine story were presented to a live audience using a combination of video, animations, and music. The additions to the storytelling were the “sosa” which comes from when a person having a meal in a local restaurant requests a saucer of extra ugali. It was created in collaboration with Catapult Agency and Gemini Pictures alongside Baraza Media Lab.

The five storytellers directed by Mugambi Nthiga were Aleya Kassim (100 Years of Samosas), Lutivini Majanja (Home), Paul Otieno (Mama Onyango’s Hair), Wanjeri Gakuru (Siku Za Mwizi ni Arobaini), and Christine Mungai (The Parable of the Monkey). The evening was emceed by June Gachui and Elsaphan Njora.

Here is an excellent report of the event from KBC.

This was one of the highlights of the whole festival with a well-researched moderator speaking to one of the smartest people working in African letters today. Another unique offering was the session 100 Years of Samosa: An East African Story by Aleya Kassim first seen at the Story Sosa event in July this year. […]
