Dr Neal Hall may be familiar to some Kenyan readers as he was one of the poets who came to the Storymoja Hay festival in 2013. Dr Neal Hall is an American-born doctor who discovered that he had a penchant for writing prose and poetry.
His major work is Nigger for Life “reflects the painful, later life discovery of Neal Hall, M.D., that in “unspoken America,” race is the one thing on which he is “first” judged, by which he is “first” measured, “first”, against which his life and accomplishments are metered diminished value, dignity, and equality. “
The work has been well received the world over with awards all over from the world. Its seems that the poet is the winner of the London Book Festival 2013 awards for poetry for his seminal work Nigger For Life. The award comes with some goodies that include a $1500 appearance fee and a flight to London for the gala awards ceremony in January 2014 at the British Library.
