Syncity NG Anniversary Anthology and Prize longlist announced.

The Syncity NG Anniversary Anthology and Prize longlist was announced on March 27, 2019.

Syncity NG, founded by Mystique Syn Osuchukwu, is a platform that showcases the best of African literature to the world. It started off as a regular multi-topic blog, but embraced literature as a niche in February 2018; they would go on to cover literary events and book festivals. With the platform celebrating one year in existence, the team decided to celebrate by publishing an anthology with prizes on offer.

Submissions for the anthology and prize came from around Africa with citizens of Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Benin Republic, and Ghana making submissions. From the 43 pieces submitted, there were 23 stories that have been longlisted. These are;

  6. It’s Raining in Our Hearts Like it’s Raining in This Town, by Esomnofu Ebelenna
  7. This too Shall Pass, by Erhu Kome Yellow
  8. Westgate, by Alex Nderitu
  9. We are the Breaths of The Fathers, by Mayor Prosper Ihechi
  10. If there will be a Next Time, Please Return Promptly, by Nelson C.J
  11. An Orijin a Day, by Munukayumbwa Mwiya
  12. A Half-Formed Thing, by Adefolami Ademola
  13. Salt Paper, by Wisani Buti Mushwana
  14. Colourful Things, by Godwin Uche Uwadilachi
  15. This Story Has no Good End, by Chizoma Emeka Joshua
  16. Morpheus, by Haku Jackson
  17. Fighting Shadows, by Dhee Sylvester
  18. Distorted, by Ihezie Eberechukwu Christiana
  19. Diagnosis, by Chiedozié
  20. Womanhood, by Mubanga Kalimamukwento

  22. The Alternative, by Aguajah Ifeanyi Ajah
  23. By the 6th Second, by Ufuoma Kwale

The entries will be judged by Leye Adenle, author of Easy Motion Tourist and When Trouble Sleeps, and Mukoma Wa Ngugi, author of The Rise of the African Novel: Politics of Language, Identity and Ownership; Nairobi Heat; Blackstar Nairobi; and Mrs Shaw.

The shortlists and winner will be announced in due course.
