Tade Thompson’s Rosewater on Prix Utopiales 2020 shortlist.

Tade Thompson’s Rosewater is on the shortlist of the Prix Utopiales 2020 announced on June 16, 2020.

The Prix Utopiales is a literary prize handed out every year at Utopiales, the Festival International de Science-Fiction de Nantes. It rewards a novel or a collection of short stories published or translated into French during the literary season preceding the festival, and belonging to the genre of imaginary literatures annually. The winner is awarded a cash prize of 2,000 euros after being selected by a jury of readers.

The 2020 selections of the Utopiales and Utopiales Youth Awards, unveiled on June 16, each includes five works with one African/Black writer featuring.

. The 2020 selection is as follows:

  • Chiens de Guerre by Adrian Tchaikovsky (Great Britain), published by Denoël.
  • Inkarmations by Pierre Bordage (France), published by Leha.
  • Les Furtifs by Alain Damasio (France), published by La Volte.
  • Les Machines Fantômes by Olivier Paquet (France), published by L’Atalante
  • Rosewater by Tade Thompson (Great Britain), editions J’lu.

Tade Thompson’s Rosewater is the start of an award-winning, cutting edge trilogy set in Nigeria. Thompson’s reaction to the nomination was ever gracious stating, “ROSEWATER is nominated for Prix Utopiales, I can now reveal. You can see a book by that @aptshadow bloke too.”

The winner of the Prix Utopiales 2020 will be revealed at the Festival International de Science-Fiction de Nantes which runs from October 29 to November 2, 2020. This will be the 20th edition of the festival.
