Tendai Huchu was the featured author at the Goethe-Institut Namibia’s Virtually Yours on Saturday, December 5, 2020. He was moderated by series curator Zukiswa Wanner.
Virtually Yours is a new series that brings you to the centre of contemporary African literature with discussions between leading African authors curated by Zukiswa Wanner and hosted by Goethe-Namibia. The series kicked off in October with Niq Mhlongo followed by Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi in November.
The featured author for December was Zimbabwean writer Tendai Huchu the author of The Hairdresser of Harare (2010) and The Maestro, the Magistrate and the Mathematician (2014). His newest book The Library of the Dead published by Tor Books is forthcoming in 2021.
The author who was streaming in from Edinburgh, Scotland spoke about his first book The Hairdresser of Harare sharing that he only took two weeks to write its first draft. Apart from speaking about this book he spoke about the fear of being “cancelled” for those producing work, the economics of writing, and about the new book coming in 2021.
The session ended with books being handed out in a draw to those who had streamed in.
