Down River Road, the newest literary journal in Kenya, is set to launch at the Kenya Cultural Centre, Nairobi on Friday, February 7, 2020.
Going Down River Road is a fantastic gritty urban tale written by legendary Kenyan novelist Meja Mwangi in 1976. We weren’t surprised that a part of this title was used by Clifton Gachagua and Franklin Sunday for a new online and print journal that would publish fiction, nonfiction, poetry and ideas. The publication called Down River Road currently has work online that you can read at their website at https://downriverroad.org/.
In 2019, the journal made a call out for work and many submitted their poetry, prose, nonfiction, and other genres of art. From the dozens of entries, Idza Luhumyo, Khadija Abdalla Bajaber, Frankline Sunday, Michelle Angwenyi, Lutivini Majanja, Lorna Likiza, Judyannet Muchiri, Bethuel Muthee, Clifton Gachagua, Alexis Teyie, Kamwangi Njue, Kali Mutabuti, and Binti Mombasa made the cut for the first edition.
The new journal makes its official entrance into the Kenya literary community with a launch at the Kenya Cultural Centre, Cheche Wing this Friday, February 7 starting at 4pm. The event will include a special DJ set from DJ Raph, an art exhibition by Anita Kavochy, and a special performance by legendary artist KituSewer.
This is a literary initiative so the main thing bibliophiles get will be readings from some of the writers who feature in the new publication.
