Tomi Adeyemi’s Children Of Blood And Bone is on African soil for all of y’all. The New York Times Bestseller is brought to you by Ouida Books.
On March 25, 2018 an interesting entry featured on the New York Times Bestsellers lists in the Young Adult section. This book featuring on that list was Children Of Blood And Bone by Nigeria American writer Tomi Adeyemi. The blurb for the book is;
“Zélie remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. When different clans ruled – Burner’s igniting flames, Tider’s beckoning waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoning forth souls.
But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, anyone with powers was targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope. Only a few people remain with the power to use magic, and they must remain hidden.
Zélie is one such person. Now she has a chance to bring back magic to her people and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must learn to harness her powers and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.
Danger lurks in Orïsha, where strange creatures prowl, and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to come to terms with the strength of her magic – and her growing feelings for an enemy.”
So magical realism. Well the book deal which was signed last year has seen the young writer described as the next JK Rowling by entertainment weekly.
We people in the mother land, specifically in Nigeria, can now get their own copy of the book courtesy of Ouida Books. The newly minted bestseller made the announcement on her Instagram in the following message;
This book is the third major signing in US publishing after Imbolo Mbue with Behold The Dreamers and Yaa Gyasi with Homegoing.
