Translations for work by Ayesha Harruna Attah, Koleka Putuma, and Akwaeke Emezi are either here or in the works.
Translations are an important part of any publishing ecosystem to thrive. Here is some work that you can expect to see in translation either on your bookshelf or in the not too distant future.
The Hundred Wells of Salaga, Ayesha Harruna Attah.
The Hundred Wells of Salaga also offers a remarkable view of slavery within Africa, centering around two strong and memorable female characters whose lives intersect in a surprising way. It is a mesmerizing story of courage, forgiveness, love, and freedom, and establishes Ayesha Harruna Attah as one of the most appealing voices to emerge in African fiction. This novel is out in Dutch and we can expect a German translation in March.
Collective Amnesia, Koleka Putuma.
Koleka Putuma’s exploration of blackness, womxnhood, and history in Collective Amnesia is fearless and unwavering. This amazing poetry collection has already been translated into Spanish and will now be translated into Danish & released in Denmark by Rebel With A Cause.
Freshwater, Akwaeke Emezi.
Freshwater explores the surreal experience of having a fractured self. It centres around a young Nigerian woman, Ada, who develops separate selves within her as a result of being born “with one foot on the other side.” Unsettling, heartwrenching, dark, and powerful, Freshwater is a sharp evocation of a rare way of experiencing the world, one that illuminates how we all construct our identities. Freshwater is now in Italian with the title Acquadolce courtesy of ilSaggiatore Publishing house founded in 1958 by Alberto Mondadori.
