Two Africans make IMPAC Dublin Literary Award 2015 shortlist

The IMPAC Dublin Literary Award 2015 shortlist has just been announced and two Africans have made the cut from the initial longlist. They are Nigerian Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for Americanah and Moroccan Mahi Binebine for Horses of God. Binebine’s book was originally written in French but translated into English by Lulu Norman.

The IMPAC Dublin Literary Award is one of the world’s most valuable annual literary awards for a single work of fiction published in English with the winner going home with €100,000. That’s about Kshs10 Million in case you are wondering.

  6. K by Bernardo Kucinski (Brazilian) Translated from Portuguese by Sue Branford. Published by Latin American Bureau.
  7. Brief Loves That Live Forever by Andreï Makine (French, Russian-born) Translated from French by Geoffrey Strachan. Published by MacLehose Press.
  8. TransAtlantic by Colum McCann (Irish) Published by Bloomsbury Publishing, Random House Inc. and HarperCollins Canada.
  9. Someone by Alice McDermott (American) Published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
  10. Sparta by Roxana Robinson (American) Published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
