Vincent De Paul launched his novel Inevitable Desires: First Love at the Mbogi ya Mawriters series at the Alliance Francaise, Nairobi on January 25, 2020.
Mbogi Ya Mawriters is a series hosted by the Alliance Francaise in Nairobi in partnership with the Writers Guild of Kenya. In the past, the series has hosted the launch of Haroun Risa’s Mombasa Raha My Foot; Jeanie Marima’s Trio Troubles; and Gabriel Dinda and Verah Omwocha Dinda’s Questions of My Youth and Diary of the Mahia.
This January, it was the turn of Nakuru-born Nairobi-based Vincent De Paul, who has a long history in writing in the East African country. He first got national attention when his poetry manuscript won at the Nairobi International Book Fair Literary Awards, organized by the National Book Development Council of Kenya, in 2010. With the win, he went about searching for a publisher in a Kenyan scene not famous for supporting those who want to produce creative work. Eventually, he gave up and went the self-publishing route leading to him publishing over ten books in prose and poetry in the last few years.
The soft-spoken writer introduced his eleventh tome Inevitable Desires: First Love at the Alliance Francaise with excellent moderation by Dean Gichukie. The Saturday afternoon included De Paul reading from his new publication and speaking about the challenges of writing and publishing (he is now a publisher with Mystery Publishers Ltd).
