Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor is set to feature at the “Freedom Conversation”. The event hosted by Jalada Africa will be at the Laico Regency Hotel, Nairobi on Friday, November 30, 2018.
The Freedom Papers was a Scottish project that featured specially commissioned writing from 51 authors from around the world each exploring their own unique interpretation of Freedom. They examined LGBTQ+, race, religion, immigration, disability, education, and technology.
Kenyan audiences will this Friday get to hear from some of the contributors as Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor and Scottish author Kapka Kassabova read from their contributions to the Freedom Papers. Both writers deal with varied themes including an exploration of home portrayed with dedication and deep sympathy. This conversation called the “Freedom Conversation” will be moderated by Nick Barley, the Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor is no stranger to those who follow the Kenyan literary scene. She won the Caine Prize 2003 for her short story Weight of Whispers and the Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature 2015 for her debut novel Dust. Her sophomore offering The Dragonfly Sea is set to make its introduction in March 2019.
The evening will be hosted by Jalada Africa a pan-African writers’ collective that has had success with themed anthologies featuring some of the hottest new names in African writing today.
The conversation, supported by British Council (Kenya & Scotland), Creative Scotland as well as Laico Regency, will be preceded by a live music performance by Tetu Shani.
