Zambia’s Ngoma Awards 2024 winners announced

The winners of the Ngoma Awards 2024 were announced in a ceremony in Lusaka, Zambia on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

The Ngoma Awards are an annual Zambian arts award ceremony that recognise the nation’s artistic talent organised by the National Arts Council of Zambia. First awarded in 1996, they are the official national artistic honours and awards, covering a wide range of disciplines in the Southern African nation. They include creative writing, stage theatre, community theatre, music, traditional music and dance, visual arts, and media arts.

The 2024 winners were revealed at a colourful ceremony at the Ciela Resort in Lusaka on Wednesday. Awards were given in the categories of Creative Writing, Fashion, Adjudication, Visual Arts, Community Theatre, Traditional Music and Dance, Stage Theatre, Comedy, Media Arts, and Music. There were also lifetime achievement awards for both a man and a woman.

Diamond Ngoma Award for Creative Writing

Male

  • Weston Mutale Bowa — A ZNBC Radio 2 presenter whose program Dawn on the Arts promoted Zambian culture, literature, and arts, providing a national platform for artists and writers to showcase their work.

Female

  • Monde Sifuniso — a renowned Zambian publisher, editor, and writer who has made significant contributions to the development of literature and publishing.

Diamond Friend of the Arts

  • Creative Writing Zambia Education – The publishing house, formerly known as the Kenneth Kaunda Foundation, has continued to provide a platform for Zambian authors
