Zimbabwe’s Gweru International Book Festival 2017 for September

The Gweru International Book Festival 2017 is set for September 14-16, 2017. The theme for this year’s edition is, “Igniting the Power of Ideas whose Time has Come.”

Gweru is the third largest city in Zimbabwe and is the administrative capital of the Midlands Province, one of ten provinces of the Southern African country. This new festival will add to those already in the country like the older one Zimbabwe International Book Fair and the relative newcomer Litfest Harare.

The festival will be officially launched by Friday 15 September with the Zimbabwe Minister of Primary & Secondary Education, Dr L. Dokora taking guest of honour duties. The festival will also commemorate the International Literacy Day under the 2017 Theme, “Literacy in a Digital World.”

The festival will be hosted at the Gweru Theatre, Civic Park Exhibition Grounds (Open Space), and the Gweru Memorial Library.

The festival will include a raft of activities like a schools/colleges/universities educational tour, career guidance, competitions (Poetry, Public speaking, Debate, Dance, Band & Choral music, Written short stories), fashion & talent Show, a family fun day, presentations of Academic Papers, Books & Music launch platforms, literature Seminars, edutainment & quiz, a visual arts exhibition, seminars, Media, Film & Theatre venue (come, meet & be inspired by “The Walt Disney of Africa” aka “19-year-old Professor” of KAKIC Universe). There will also be an exhibition featuring Publishers, Educational institutions, corporates and other value-adding partners/sponsors.
