Caribbean Literature Day 2025

Caribbean Literature Day 2025 for July 12

The Caribbean Literature Day 2025 is set to be marked for the sixth year across the Caribbean on Sunday, July 12, 2025.

St. Martin-based publisher House of Nehesi announced that the first Caribbean Literature Day would be hosted on July 12, 2020. The day was chosen when Spanish Franciscan priest and bishop of Yucatán, Diego de Landa, with soldiers and colonial authorities in attendance, ordered the burning of sacred Mayan texts containing knowledge spanning millennia in 1562. The plan was to read work by Caribbean authors; buy Caribbean books, published in the Caribbean and beyond, and by Caribbean authors; and present Caribbean books as gifts. It has since become an annual celebration with events in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Caribbean Literature Day will be commemorated across the Caribbean with the House of Nehisi making the call to celebrate the vibrant stories, lit heritage, and powerful voices of the Caribbean on Sunday.
