Association of Nigerian Authors Announces 2025 Award Winners

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) announced the winners of its 2025 literary awards on Saturday, November 1, during the organization’s 44th annual convention in Abuja.

Founded in 1981 by the legendary author Chinua Achebe, ANA is dedicated to promoting Nigerian literature and supporting the interests of writers across the nation. The annual convention, a key event on the literary calendar, features panel discussions, readings, and other activities for the writing community. They also announce the winners of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Awards, which have been won in the past by, among others, Niyi Osundare, Amu Nnadi, Tade Ipadeola, Maik Nwosu, and Akachi Ezeigbo.

The shortlist for the 2025 awards was revealed on September 18. The winners, selected from this shortlist, were announced at the convention, which ran from October 30 to November 1.

The 2025 ANA Award winners are:

Chinua Achebe Prize for Literature

For prose fiction, established by the Anambra State Government

  • See Morocco, See Spain by Ndidi Chiazor Enenmor

ANA/KMVL Poetry Prize

For poetry that engages with social and political realities) (Joint Winners)

  • Girls and the Silhouette of Form by Star Zahra
  • Stoning the Wind by Gbemisola Adeoti

Jury Remarks: Star Zahra’s collection was praised for its “linguistic innovation and emotional resonance,” while Professor Adeoti’s work was noted for its “rootedness in tradition and patriotism.”

ANA/King Dakolo Fiction Prize

  • Habitat of Ordinary People by Olumide Olutola

Jury Remarks: The winning work was distinguished by its “authentic characterisation and social realism.”

ANA Drama Prize

  • The Great Delusion by Majekodunmi Oseriemen Ebhohon

Jury Remarks: The play is “a powerful exploration of Black identity and Western erasure of African contributions, executed with experimental flair.”

ANA/Sir Chukwuemeka Sam Nwelue Non-Fiction Prize

  • Breaking Point by David Hundeyin

ANA/Ngozi Chuma-Udeh Prize for Children’s Literature

  • The Boy Who Built a Titanic Craft by David Okorafor

Jury Remarks: “A tale of courage and innovation that captured the imagination of readers and judges alike.”

ANA/Amina Talaku Zakama Prize for Literary Criticism

  • No award given (No entries)
