On Friday, January 30, 2026, Soma Nami Books in Nairobi will launch its new “Kenyan Writers’ Series” with novelist Ciku Kimeria.
Announced in mid-January, the series is dedicated to celebrating Kenyan authors, stories, and voices. Through author conversations, panel discussions, book launches, and more, it will spotlight Kenyan writers, explore their work, and delve into craft, context, and the stories that demand to be heard.
From fiction to nonfiction, poetry to essays, the series aims to amplify voices that reflect Kenya’s past, present, and future. This initiative is both a celebration and a commitment: to read Kenyan, to support Kenyan, and to consistently center our stories—not as a passing trend, but as a sustained tradition. The series seeks to build a living archive of Kenyan literature, one conversation at a time.

The inaugural event features Nairobi-based writer Ciku Kimeria, a novelist, journalist, and communications specialist. She is the author of Dance of the Monkeys (2020) and Of Goats and Poisoned Oranges (2014), and her work has appeared in outlets such as African Arguments, OkayAfrica, and The Africa Report. She will be in conversation with Judy Karagania at Soma Nami Books, located in The Greenhouse on Ngong Road.
