Dilman Dila and Eugen Bacon were named nominees of the Philip K. Dick Award 2024 in Philadelphia, USA on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

Philip K Dick was a US science fiction writer who wrote 44 novels and about 121 short stories, most of which appeared in science fiction magazines during his lifetime. In 1983, the Philip K. Dick Award was inaugurated by the Philip K. Dick Trust for distinguished science fiction to celebrate the best science fiction paperback novel published in the United States in the previous calendar year. It is sponsored by the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society and the Philip K. Dick Trust and the award ceremony is sponsored by the Northwest Science Fiction Society.  

The judges for 2024 are Kali Wallace (Chair), Nicky Drayden, Gordon Eklund, Christopher V. Rowe, and Lisa Yaszek. They announced the nominees with the following writers of African descent making the list;

  • Danged Black Thing, Eugen Bacon (Apex Book Company)
  • Where Rivers Go to Die, Dilman Dila (Rosarium Publishing)

The winner and any special citations will be announced in Philadelphia, USA on Friday, March 29, 2024
