Ignyte Awards 2025 winners announced

The Ignyte Awards 2025 winners, the fifth edition of the award scheme, were announced on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Fiyah is a quarterly speculative fiction magazine featuring stories by and about Black people of the African Diaspora based in the USA, founded in 2016. In 2021, they hosted FIYAHCON for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) with the Ignyte Awards as its centrepiece. They celebrated the vibrancy and diversity of the current and future landscapes of science fiction, fantasy, and horror by recognizing incredible feats in storytelling and outstanding efforts toward inclusivity of the genre. The awards have subsequently been announced in 20222023, and 2024.

The 2025 finalists were announced on Monday, June 9, before the winners were made public on October 13. They are;

Outstanding Novella

  • Lost Ark Dreaming, Suyi Davies Okungbowa (Tordotcom)

Outstanding Novelette

  • We Who Will Not Die, Shingai Njeri Kagunda (Psychopomp 9/30/24)

Outstanding Speculative Poetry

  • reliving: post trauma of the lekki tollgate massacre., Fasasi Ridwan (Strange Horizons 12/16/24)

Outstanding Creative Nonfiction

  • Afro-Centered Futurisms in Our Speculative Fiction, Eugen Bacon, ed. (Bloomsbury Academic)

The Community Award

For Outstanding Efforts in Service of Inclusion and Equitable Practice in Genre
