Kenyan book store Nuria opened its second branch in Nyali, Mombasa on Monday, July 28, 2025.
In 2015, Abdullahi Bulle set up the Nuria bookstore, named after his mother, in Nairobi, Kenya; Nuria also incidentally is a play on the word “nuru,” which is “light” in Kiswahili. He started selling what was in vogue at the time, motivational and self-help books as well as biographies and novels, mainly sourced from out of the country. Since those humble beginnings, Nuria has quietly become the face of the self-publishing revolution that is happening in Kenya today. They also sell many titles in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, with over 2,000 authors on their books.

The store opened a new branch on the first floor of Links Arcade, Nyali, in the coastal city of Mombasa on Monday, July 28. The store promises the same level of service as bibliophiles in the capital city, with the books being regularly delivered to customers. Writers in Mombasa also now have an opportunity to showcase their work, as Nuria is famous for giving a platform to those who are new in the industry.
