Prix Premiere 2025 longlist announced.

The Prix Première 2025 longlist, featuring four writers of African descent, was announced in Berlin, Germany, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

Prix Première (English: First Prize) is an award organized by the Franco-German Cultural Institute of Tübingen and the Book Office of the French Institute in Germany. It celebrates books translated from French into German and has been running since 2020. Previous winners have been Ryoko Sekiguchi & Karin Uttendörfer, Antoine Wauters & Paul Sourzac, and Pierric Bailly & Paul Sourzac. The 2024 winners were Raphaëlle Red and her translator Patricia Klobusiczky for Adikou (Rowohlt).

The longlist, announced on July 15, featured the following writers of African descent;

• Cave 72, Fann Attiki, Lenos Verlag (Cave 72, JC Lattès), translated by Christiane Kayser
• Was ich von dir weiß, Éric Chacour, Gutkind Verlag (Ce que je sais de toi, Philippe Rey in Frankreich / Éditions Alto in Kanada), translated by Sina de Malafosse
• Die Frauen von Bidi Bidi, Charline Effah, Orlanda Verlag (Les femmes de Bidibidi, Emmanuelle Collas), translated by Ela zum Winkel
• Diese glühenden Sonnen, Nincemon Fallé, Gutkind (Ces soleils ardents, JC Lattès), translated by Hanne Reinhardt

The 16 longlisted works will be read and evaluated by the jury of Aurélie Maurin (Program Director TOLEDO – German Translators’ Fund), Niki Théron (Senior Manager International Projects & Film – Frankfurt Book Fair), Claudia Marquardt (editor and literary translator), Patricia Klobusiczky (literary translator and winner of the Prix Première 2023), Manon Boutté (Cultural Officer of the German-French Cultural Institute Tübingen / ICFA), and Myriam Louviot (Head of the Office for Books and Publishing, Institut français Deutschland).

They will select a shortlist of three works, which will be announced at the Frankfurt Book Fair before the winner is revealed at the Leipzig Book Fair 2026 in March 2026. The winning author and translator will each receive €1,000.
